What is ITIL?

ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library. It is a set of best practices for IT Service Management that focuses on how IT services can help with the needs of business.

ITIL lists the procedures, tasks and checklists that are organisation-neutral and are used by companies to establish a minimum level of competency. It creates a benchmark for a business, with which it can plan, implement, and measure. It is used to measure the improvement, and to understand how compliant an organisation is to the best practices.
